Where Caught: My county experienced record flooding in the spring of 08. Gunner had not been out of state at all. The blasto had to come from my property. I did not experience any water standing on my property during the flooding but the water table was a record high. I have mulch in several locations on my property. I also own horses and had a manure pile from the winter months still on my property.

Symptoms: day 1-no energy, fever, blood shot eyes/squinting. day 3-no energy, fever, swollen toe/lame, blood shot eyes/squinting. day 8-blind, swollen leg/lame and painful, low grade fever.

Treatment: Itraconazole 2 pills a day
Trusopt (eye drops)3 x a day
Prednisone (eye drops)6 x a day
Gunner weighed 74 pounds

Cost of Treatment: At the local pharmacy the pills were $178.00 for 30 pills. Then I got hooked up with a pharmacy out of canada and the pills were $148.00 for 90 pills. Trusopt is $78.00 for a small bottle. Prednisone is $26.00 for a small bottle. NUMEROUS vet bills and a bill from purdue university. Gunner was diagnosed March 08 and it is now August 08. Thousands of dollars and worth every penny so far!

Additional Comments: I wish I would have found this sight alot sooner so I had people to talk to that were going through the same situation. This sight is truly amazing! The local vets in my surrounding counties are not well informed/up to date on Blasto information at all! I will be printing out your newsletter and mailing it to all the area vets. Thanks so much for informing pet owners about this nasty disease.
