Lucy

Species: Human

Sex: Female

Age: 23

Year: 2012

Country: U.S.A.

Locality: northbrook, il

Survived?: Yes

Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes

Where Caught: Not sure but suspect garden or yard. Lucy is an indoor/outdoor cat who stays in our yard. We live in a suburban location. We do have a small creek a block away.

Symptoms: Sudden blindness. Lucy had an eye infection that progresses within 48 hours to blindness. She has no other symptoms.

Treatment: Eye was removed one week after the onset of the eye infection and was sent for analysis. Blastomycosis was diagnosis.

Cost of Treatment: We are not treating the disease at this point. She has no symptoms at this time and prognosis for cat treatment is not good. Cost was estimated at $200/month for itraconazole tablets and $300 for monthly blood work plus x-rays. Recommended treatment was for 10 months.

Additional Comments: Will keep posted. We are hopeful that by some miracle she does not develop symptoms but know it is only a matter of time. It has been 4 weeks since enucleation and nothing has appeared thus far.
