Where Caught: Izzie is an adopted greyhound and we think she caught it at the track. She had a brief stint in Wisconsin.

Symptoms: Her left ear was sensitive to the touch at first. She started losing weight. Then her front paw was sore (thought she hurt a nail, though). Then it moved to her back hock, which swelled and was sore. Her pupils then were different sizes and we got her to the vet. Within two days she developed severe glaucoma, her retina detached, and the eye was removed. Her lung xrays showed no lesions nor did her other eye.

Treatment: Izzie is taking anti-fungals for the next three months. She responded well immediately and has had her liver tested for drug reaction; so far so good. She is regaining weight and is playful again and adjusting quickly to one-eyed life. We're taking it a day at a time and hoping for the best-she's a sweet girl!

Cost of Treatment: Her first 10 days of medication ran $20.00/day. We got generics through the vet from Road Runner Pharmacy in Arizona for $2.00/day. The eye removal was about $800.00.
