Zeke

Species: Dog

Sex: Male

Age: 9

Year: 2011

Country: Canada

Locality: USA and Canada

Survived?: Yes

Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes

Where Caught: Zeke came by boat from Florida to Georgian Bay so it is difficult to pin point where he got the Blastomycosis from.

Symptoms: Eye Infection May 2011
Itchy paws June 2011
Lethargic and shallow breathing September 2011

Treatment: Zeke was in ICU at the University of Guelph for 9 days. He was released Sunday Sept 18th and is presently on Sporanox, Prednisone and Cephhalexin

Cost of Treatment: Cost from 9 days at the University of Guelph was $6000. Prior to arriving there his vet bills, including one night at an emergency clinic were about $2000. We just ordered a 6 month supply of Sporanox for $800. Xrays and blood work to follow on a regular basis.

Additional Comments: Zekes case was described as severe, it had not spread to his eyes or any other organs. Perhaps because of the severity and his age he was slow to recover. He has been home just over 24 hours and is improving by the hour.
