Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes

Where Caught: We had a freak snowstorm in October and many trucks coming from out of state cleaning up and leaving behind debris. She was always playing in the piles of dead leaves

Symptoms: started with a sore on her right front paw. The vet gave her antibiotics and she began to have trouble breating. We thought it might be an allergic reaction to the medicine, but the chest xray showed a snowstorm pattern. She rapidly got sicker and developed many open lesions. Luckily, we have a savvy vet who diagnosed her within two weeks and stated her on itraconozale.

Treatment: Itraconozale, deramax, baytril, prednisone eye drops, another kind of eye drops.Biweekly checks of her liver enzymes.

Cost of Treatment: aprrox. $3,500.00

Additional Comments: Spread the word! I live in NY where my vet had never seen a case, but apparently it is not just a regional disease anymore!
