Gus

Species: Dog

Sex: Male

Age: 2

Year: 2011

Country: U.S.A.

Locality: Strawberry Plains, TN

Survived?: Yes

Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes

Where Caught: Close to my house. We live surrounded by a river, farms, streams, and ponds. He has been recently diagnosed and is not out of the woods yet.

Symptoms: Cough, lethargy, weight loss, short of breath at rest.

Treatment: Sporanox 50mg 3 times daily, Rimadyl 100mg for inflammation.

Cost of Treatment: Too much so far. But, the vet has been so kind and understanding and is allowing us to make payments.

Additional Comments: I just brought Gus home from the vet yesterday after a 10 day hospitalization. He received, of course, the antifungal med, anti-inflammatories, bronchodilators, and some oxygen therapy. My concern is him eating. He's a beautiful black lab that likes to eat (not over indulging himself though), and he's having a hard time with the eating part. If anyone has any suggestions, I would most greatly appreciate it.
