Locality: Tazewell ,Ilinois, USA
Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes
Where Caught: Yes at University of Illinois
Symptoms: Digging in the dirt in our yard
Initially she had a soft mass under her neck that the Local Vet aspirated and said it was an animal bite.
Treatment: Amoxicillin 5oo mg BID. Warm packs BID
the mass went away after a couple of days.
Other lesions kept opening and draining
and still the vet said it was an animal bite and cont tx with the amoxicillin. After 3 weeks she began to have labored resp. and I took her
back to the local vet and He said he
thought it was Blasto and their was no
hope. So we took her that day to the Uof I Vet emergency clinic. Her CXR was
a complete white out. They gave her little chance of surviving but we tried treatment with Diflucan which killed her in 4 days.
Cost of Treatment: Aprox.$ 550.00
Additional Comments: Just that we are devastated and want to prevent any other dogs deaths. I want to do research on prevention and
early diagnosis and treatment.I would appreciate any articles and research being done on this.
