Where Caught: A female minature schnauzer exposed in northeastern Minnesota near the BWCA.

Symptoms: Initial symptoms included lethargy, fever, loss of appetite, followed by limping and joint pain. Eventually an open lesion on her right leg. Right eye was affected, causing blindness; the eye was removed.

Treatment: Itraconazole (Sporanox)
Initial infection required hospitalization with intravenous fluids and tube feeding. Surgical removal of the right eye.
