Species: Human

Sex: Male

Age: 36

Year: 2009

Country: Canada

Locality: Monticello,KY

Survived?: Yes

Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes

Where Caught: We are not sure the doctors told us you get it from the soil and from birds and bat droppings.???

Symptoms: At first it was flu like symptoms and then it started to affect his bones and lungs. They mis-diagnosed him with cancer in Sept. 2009 but after a biopsy and a trip to Vanderbilt Medical Center(we love them) we found out he has histoplasmosis and blastomycosis.

Treatment: He is taking sporonax. If you will go through Johnson and Johnson to get it they sometimes donate the medicane for free.

Cost of Treatment: outrageous!!! and no insurance it has been a nigtmare.

Additional Comments: Has it affected anyone else's bones his has got in his knee but has been even worse in his hand it has caused the bone to deterate and we think they will have to remove his left index finger. Does this get any better any time soon? I know they told us approx. a year or two.
