Where Caught: Sparkey summers in Presque Isle Wisconsin and spends a great deal of time on in and around the water.

Symptoms: Flu like symptoms for 5 days. Listless, achey, diarrhea, refused almost all food and 105.2 fever. From 62# down to 55#. On day 6 his eye closed and we strongly suspected blasto. Copied off symptoms from web and read them to my vet who had never had a case. Immediately went on itraconazole. Four days later his eye swelled and I rushed him to MSU Vet Hospital. Mira Vista confirmed blasto. Count of 70 which is way high.

Treatment: MSU put him on 125 mg itraconazole (after higher doses for a week). Also prednolisone, timolol, and dorzolamide eye drops. Rimadyl twice daily for just one week. He immediately responded and after one week was beter and after two even better yet. He is in his 6th week now and can run and play and eats alot.
His right eye has acute angle glaucoma and has been useless since the 2nd week. The left one is fine.

Cost of Treatment: So far $2,000. If the doctors insist on removing his eye, then add more and he certainly in eligible for a relapse of any kind but he sure feels fine and relieved now.

Additional Comments: 6 months later: Sparkey is well. Mira Vista down to .27. X-rays clear except a few dots on lung which may be scar tissue. Still on itraconizol. No vision in rt eye. Left one fine. He is happy so I am too.
