Species: Dog

Sex: Male

Age: 6

Year: 2009

Country: U.S.A.

Locality: brainerd MN USA

Survived?: No

Medical Diagnosis of Blastomycosis?: Yes

Where Caught: Hard to tell, he had nice wooded land and pond to play in as well as digging in landscaping some.

Symptoms: At first had some disinterest in fetching or playing as much, I just thought he was a bit under the weather. Then came some lameness in a rear leg and then the other rear leg too, tried normal antibiotics with no improvement and then there was some loss of vision and seemed like hearing too. I went to another vet for second opinion and by that morning the breathing had gotten more rapid and louder. The second vet x-rayed and biopsied tissue and it came back as Blasto.

Treatment: None, dog had to be put down. Vet was pretty sure the dog would not survive the treatment attempt and would never recover the vision loss. So Sad a choice to have to make for a dog in his prime.

Cost of Treatment: cost for diagnosis work $700, cost would have been about $130 for the first 5 days and then about $130 per month for the next 5-6 months.

Additional Comments: I miss you Jake!
