Where Caught: There was a flood last year in Hymers, Ontario, just west of Thunder Bay. Two dogs from the area did not survive. We took Smai to the vet when she showed signs of fatigue, depression, and not being able to move like she usually does (Husky = Full of Energy). The vet had just put down the other two dogs, when we brought in Sami.

Symptoms: She had a fever, we did the chest x-ray, but it didn't show any problems. Fever remained, so we put her right on the Sporanox, and she perked up within a month.

Treatment: We kept her on the Sporanox for two or three months...the vet thought maybe she had a mild case, but within days she was back to the earlier symptoms, so we promptly put her back on the Sporanox. It has been 7 months since, and I am planning on continuing the pills for 3 more months. It took 6 months to get her where she was the first time after only one month! Scared to stop, but 10 months should be good? She had blood work to check her organ functions, and so far so good.

Cost of Treatment: $180 Pills per month plus vet bills.
