Question re: eye involvement
« on: November 12, 2010, 07:56:11 PM »

So after Curby's best day yesterday, tearing apart several stuffies, today we woke up to new swelling in his front leg.  Very painful for him even with tramadol.  THen this afternoon I found a lesion (his first) on his tail.  It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much, but i'm ordering the pascalite clay.

As I look in his eyes tonight, I think one looks a little cloudy, but I'm not sure.  My question is whether people have seen dog eyes get involved after being on itra for more than a month?  We're on day 45 of the itra and his lungs and one leg had been affected up to now.  Any info as to timing of eye involvement after start of meds is appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know about the timing, but if his eye is cloudy get him to a vet tomorrow if possible, Monday at the latest!  Glaucoma pressure can build quickly with eye involvement...we lost Izzy's eye less than a week after we noticed her was cloudy.  I can't say that's what's going on with sweet Curby, but believe me - better safe than sorry.

Is there any 'blue-ing' of the eye?

GOOD NEWS - no eye involvement. The vet clinic down the hill in Denver is 24/7 but internal medicine isn't open on weekends, so Curby went to emergency yesterday.  I thought if his eyes were being affected, even a couple of days might help prevent the blindness.  I've told my children they need to really start working on getting college scholarships, because we've spent a couple of years of tuition so far.  Maybe one of them will become a vet, that would be convenient.

Curby was pretty active last night when I got home from work, bringing me "gifts" of head and legs of (former) stuffed animals, and now today he is REALLY tired. Ate this morning, but laying around sleeping all day.  Not typical 3 year old lab behavior for sure, but he's doing SO MUCH better than even a week ago.

A day at a time for sure.
