hello, i am new to this forum, i had blastomycosis when i was 14 years old here in WI, i am 19 now. the doctors all told me i had a severe case (mass on my lung a little larger than a golf ball) but after reading on here for a while i realize now that i was even more fortunate than i knew. i went to the my family doctor with a constant kind of pressure/pain feeling in my chest and a bad cough which we assumed was the cause of the chest pain, i went through a couple of weeks of treatment for a regular cold, after that didnt work he sent me to a lung specialist where i was told i would have to have a bronchoscopy performed to get a definate diagnosis, so i did that and when they called back i found out that i had blasto. I started treatment immediately with itraconazole and for the next 11 months went for regular monthly visits to the lung specialist and finally was told i was rid of blasto, the only lasting effect is some scarring on my right lung. i realize now how severe it could have gotten and im glad i made it to the doctor when i did and he was quick about getting me a diagnosis. to everyone out there who has lost a friend or a loved one to this terrible disease im very sorry for your loss! i feel its very important to raise awareness about this to increase the chance of an early diagnosis and getting treatment quickly. if anybody currently diagnosed or with questions wants to contact me feel free to do so i will help in any way i can
God bless all of you, and stay strong!
