My sons dog died this morning from Blasto
« on: August 31, 2007, 10:08:14 PM »

 :-[
My son's dog has been sick for the past few months with a cough, weight loss, limping etc. He had taken her to the vet over and over, always getting new antibiotics, treating her for 10 days or so, she would improve for a short period of time and then become sick again. This time, a week ago, she started losing weight, not eating, developed a limp again with sore extremities and a large lump above her shoulder. Her gums were yellow as were her eyes. The vet thought it was cancer, took her into the hospital to put her on IV's and do tests and biopsies. He called my son and his family last night stating he thought she had Blasto, which he said was very rare (especially in California) but that she was not doing well and he did not expect her to live through the night. She passed away this morning, just after midnight. We are all so very sad. She was a wonderful little dog. Her name was Bailey and she will be so missed. I have attached a photo of her.
Please say a prayer for our family. My little 2 year old grandson misses her so much already.
Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My in-laws, who live in the middle of nowhere on a farm (no creeks, rivers, etc nearby) said their neighbor's dog was just diagnosed as well.  The just finished a bunch of landscaping around their place.  We had quite a bit of new landscaping done at our local park.  I think that's how my Annie got it.  Wonder if your dog in CA got it that way too?

I read your post earlier today and hoped I would not be saying the same dreaded words in the coming days myself.  As of late this afternoon, my beloved JoJo passed away also.  We are still not sure if it was blasto or cancer so we are waiting on test results.  My heart goes out to you and your famliy as the loss I feel at this moment without Jo Jo is very hard even if I only had her 2 and a half years.  Sharing your pain in North Carolina.
