Just a quick aside -
In no way do I want to raise an argument regarding generic or brand name Itraconazole.
(I've seen no factual argument on that note, only opinion.)
Powdered, pellets, microspheres, IV or liquid, the action of Itraconazole is basically the same. In no form is Itraconazole efficiently water-soluble. It is a fat soluble drug, and absorption is fairly unpredictable, whether it's brand name or generic. The only form that can be well utilized without food is the liquid emulsion, in which case it's given about an hour before eating. That's because it's already suspended in a fat solution.
There may be reasons that one might prefer a brand name over a generic, but water solubility isn't one of them. Once again, I have no desire to be a part of any argument for or against either - those reasons vary, but the action of the drug doesn't.
Generic or not, taken by human or animal, it's still absorbed 2-3 times better if taken with food, preferably fatty food.
We've come a very long way when it comes to dispensing with confusion and making sure that our information is as correct as possible. We still need to be sure that we fact-check and whenever possible, provide valid references. Some information, like Wikipedia, is incomplete, but still a fairly good reference. It may take several sources to make an informed decision. There's a lot of good information here, but it's no substitute for your own research. Don't take our words for it.
Cheers-

Excerpt:
Itraconazole is triazole antifungal agent. As with other triazoles, it has five-membered ring structures containing three nitrogen atoms [2092]. It is available in oral capsule form (since 1992), oral solution in cyclodextrin (since 1997) and intravenous formulation in hydroxy-propyl-beta-cyclodextrin (since 1999). In its capsule and oral solution form, itraconazole is marketed as Sporanox™ by Janssen Pharmaceuticals (
http://us.janssen.com/). The intravenous formulation is marketed by Ortho Biotech.
Itraconazole is a highly lipophilic compound. While it achieves high concentrations in fatty tissues and purulent exudates, its penetration into aqueous fluids remains very limited. Gastric acidity and food influence the absorption of oral formulation [156].
Absorption of itraconazole oral capsule is variable and unpredictable. Oral solution of itraconazole is superior to the oral capsule in terms of absorption and bioavailability. The oral solution has 30% better bioavailability than the capsules and achieves higher serum concentrations. Moreover, it probably has a topical antifungal effect which is significant particularly in treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis. THe oral solution is thus generally preferred, although it is less convenient than the oral capsule. The intravenous formulation, on the other hand, achieves adequate blood levels more rapidly and its bioavailability is predictable and invariable compared to the oral capsule [289, 388, 2293, 2495].
