Blasto and going to the groomer
« on: December 04, 2008, 09:59:33 PM »

Wally's hair is getting long and he is needing a bath after all the playing out in the snow.
I was wondering what eveyone had experienced in relation to taking their dogs to the groomers.
I definately feel I need to let them know of Wally's condition, but I am scared that the groomer may be unwilling to take Wally on with his blasto and still having a few lesions.

I think I read sometime back an old post saying that the moisture is not good and not to bathe...but I would think that the dry winter air would help prevent the fungus from thriving.

Just curious what everyone did when their fuzzy friends with blasto needed a bath and haircut.

With the holidays I really want him to shine as it will be the first time alot of extended family will be meeting him.
This weekend we are going to get his picture taken with Santa...he looks like a hairy mess...but a cute hairy mess.   :D

Thanks!

I think it really depends on the groomers - I asked my groomer at Petsmart - and she was not willing to groom until all the sores had healed which made sense to me. After that, basically because she is on itraconazole it is not an issue. It is good, though to make sure that the groomer knows about the blasto - it is also a very good opportunity to spread the word because they also see dogs in the beginning condition or when owners are frustrated about a problem -informing them helps other dogs and pet owners!!

i agree it depends on the groomer and the pet
some dogs freak out about going to the vet so the added stress i feel would not be good but then soem dogs do not mind it at alll the like to go
its all up to the groomer and wally

You should most definitely let the groomer know about Wallys blasto. I didnt take Marge to the groomers because she hates the groomer anyhow and she didnt need ANY additional stress. That is totally up to you and how you think Wally will handle it. I got scolded by the vet for taking Marge swimming (she loved it and I dont regret it) because of the moisture not being good for Marge's lungs. I am assuming that is why it is easier for the dogs to breathe in the cold because there is less moisture in the air. No matter if you take Wally to the groomers or not, he will look handsome.  ;)
