Our Karelian Bear Dog, Luca, was diagnosed with Blastomycosis in July, 2015. It started out with a swollen eye. I thought he had a bee sting. It didn't go away after a couple of days and it was Friday before a holiday weekend, so I took him to the vet. She told us that it was definitely not a bee sting and started him on some antibiotics and steroids. Four days later we took him to an eye specialist (didn't even know they had eye specialists for dogs before this) and that vet guessed immediately that it was caused by blastomycosis. This was confirmed by a urine test shortly thereafter. He started treatment immediately, but was already blind in that eye. For about 3 weeks the eye specialist tried to save the blind eye, but it was causing Luca a lot of pain. We had the eye removed and he immediately improved significantly. He remained on the antifungal medications for about 8 more months before one day we really refused to take them any more. We had another test done and the results were very low, but not quite "0". We waited 4 more months and then had him tested again last month and the results were non-detect. He seems as healthy and energetic as he did before he got the infection. Just don't get on his blind side when he is running full speed! I currently have Itraspor from the Canada Drug Pharmacy, 100 mg capsules. 10 boxes of 15 capsules each plus 1 box with 6 remaining capsules. All have expiration dates of 05/2018. I don't want it to go to waste and would send it to someone that could use it for their dog. I am attaching a few photos. It looked really bad at first, but now it is much better. Luca just turned 6 a couple of weeks ago and we look forward to many more happy years with him! That is his little sister Bella with him in the one picture.
