So now that we seem to have passed the crisis point with Dirtbike, I need to get calories into her.
She is willing to eat, but it has to be special, and almost never the same thing twice. The one thing she goes for every time would (of course) be the Cesar dinners. At 75 cents a tray, and 4 trays a day per 10 lb. of dog, that's not going to cut it with this girl, who is normally 80lbs. A few ounces are about all she'll eat at one time, but at that price I can't feed her as many as she needs. It will sometimes get her started if we chop it on top of soft chunk food.
She associates peanutbutter and Ensure with being really sick and doesn't want any part of it, though I sometimes don't give her a choice. There is a convenience store on the highway that saves their waste food for me, and she'll sometimes eat sausage, bacon, ham, egg patties, lunchmeat, etc. but just not enough calories at a time.
We tried the green tripe food (uck!) and none of the dogs would touch it; Obie got some on his nose and rolled in the yard for half an hour. Millie ran, and Dirtbike wouldn't sniff it a second time. (and these guys love dead stuff...go figure.) I have a friend who is bringing me a "Meal Bone". She says that they're a meal replacement, not hard, not mushy, and that her dog really likes them. Has anyone tried these? Any other meal replacement ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks-
jen
