Hi Beth;
  I understand your vet saying "what have we got to lose".  Make no mistake, a Blasto diagnosis is dire, and I'm sure she's doing the best she knows how.
All of us *esp. Wilson3*  have experimented and juggled things around before our dogs started getting better. I even have a doctor friend who now believes that his dog died of it as well, and he can't believe that Dirtbike lived.

   The vets will get upset because others are telling you their own theories, you're calling them, you're questioning their judgment, etc.  It's really a matter of doing the best you can with what you've got. Wilson3 also used alternative treatments and carried him up and down stairs. I treated DB like I would've treated a human. Gunner stood her ground and finally had to change vets, but she still has her dog.

   Last year at this time, Wilson3 and I were watching people show up here one day, and telling us they lost their pets the next.  Now that seems to be the exception.  You're doing a great job.  No one knows your dog better than you, so go with your gut.

I am no vet but I cant really see how all of those meds could help. In my opinion, I  think that it can make things worse because of the body taking on so many pills. Maybe I am wrong. I am no vet or pharmacist. I am simply giving my opinion. I would think that the less the better meaning the less meds for other things, the better. I would want to treat the blasto only. I understand blasto brings on some other serious things I do not know what the other drugs are for. Your vet at least is willing to try and do something. I am in no way knocking her. Marge was on the itra at first and then we switched to fluconozole and she was on deramaxx for a couple weeks to help with the pain and fever. We were on eye drops as well. Have you tried giving Missy some frozen pedialyte for her dehydration? We were keeping a food journal of everything Marge ate/drank. We would force food on her all day. We were lucky that we were able to switch our schedules around so that somebody was home with her at all times. We went to the vet very regularly to check her liver/kidney function just in case. We found out that she was getting very dehydrated even though we were giving the pedialyte so the vet showed us how to give sub q fluids at home. It was really weird sticking Marge with the needle (it is HUGE) but it helped sooooo much. After she would get the fluids, she would able to chew on a tennis ball for a bit. Any little amount of activity really made us feel good. You do know your dog the best and I am sure that you are doing everything in your power to help her. Keep up the good work and Missy knows what you are doing for her!
