Hi Wilson3,

I think I might have found a good vet.  I only chatted with him briefly on the phone but he seems to be at least knowlegable about blasto.  At first he seemed reluctant to "steal" another vet's client, but when I told him I was finding a new vet either way, he was more enthusiastic about taking Gunner on.

When I was talking to him, he said "I don't want to offend you or anything, but Gunner is an imunosupressed dog."
I said, "I know that."
He asked "What are you doing about it?"
I said, "I didn't think there was anything you could do about it."
He told me that there are at least 3 things I could be doing for Gunner to boost her immune system and he has had great luck with them.  He said that even just giving Gunner "Tagament" (the heart burn meds) will stimulate her immune system (we will talk when I see him about how much and how often to give it to her and if it will conflict with the Itraconazole).  My present vet only told me that Gunner's immune system was "tanked" and left it at that.  Anyway, this new guy seems really good.  I was away this week, but will go see him early next week when ever I can get it done, because in the mean time, I managed to loose my wallet with my whole life in it and now I have to try to fix that screw up!  ~SHEESH!~

Right now Gunner is doing really good.  Her big lumps that she had that I thought would never go away are all but gone.  Unelss you feel for them, you wouldn't even know they were there.  She has a nagging eye infection though and since she only has the one left, I have to get on that.  But other than that, she is doing really, really good.

By the way, I live in Iraan, Texas.  Middle of the biggest oil patch in North America.  Sounds lovely dosen't it.

I am so happy that you were able to talk to a vet that may be able to help you out and seems knowledgable! Gunner really deserves it and obviously so do you ... you can take a break from your part time job as vet/researcher!  ;D

Marge's eye infection cleared up really fast with the new eyedrops we got her. Hopefully Gunner's will too. I understand we will have to continue treating the blind eye for infections. Oh well. As long as Marge is alive and well that is all we care about.

Take care!

What kind of eye drops did you get for Marge's eye?  The vet gave me Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates, Bacitracin Zinc and Hydrocortisone Ophthalmic Ointment to squeeze into her eye.  It kind of keeps it under control but doesn't seem to cure it.  Did your vet explain that eye infections are going to be an on-going problem with Marge and did he explain why?

(It is the WHY questions that always get me in trouble.  I was once a trainee for a guy who said be sure to always ask "why", because if you don't understand the reason, the answers you get will never stick.  And he was right.  Unfortunately my vet takes the question "why" as a threat some how.)  Oh well, I am excited about the new vet!

Marge has the neomycin right now. Yes she did explain why. She said that with Marge's blind eye still in place the socket is always inflamed to some degree which can cause the extreme goop. Because of you all, I will always ask why! Thanks everyone! I cant wait for your vet appointment. Its crazy that your vet gets threatened by you asking questions because my vet would rather me be on the same page as her. Oh well, you and Gunner will be better off.
