vaccinations during treatment
« on: January 14, 2008, 11:10:29 AM »

Hi all - hope you and your dogs are doing well.  I was wondering what you all did about vaccinations during treatment.  Moose was due for his in Nov. when he got diagnosed and my vet wants to wait to do them until he is over treatment.  I understand her reasoning but at the same time I would hate for him to get parvo or something after all we have gone through and die from that?  Any thoughts???

I'm waiting too as the Itra is very hard on their bodies.  I agree though that it would be a tragedy to lose them to some other illness after all they've gone through with the Blasto.  For now Will isn't going too far from home so I try not to worry about him getting anythng else. Most dogs around my home are vaccinated and he isn't roaming in the bush too much this time of year.

We are not giving Marge any vaccines either even though she is due. One of my friends puppy got parvo and I was FREAKING out even though Marge didnt come in contact with the dog, the thought scared the heck out of us!

funny this topic came up i was just thinking about the shot thing
wilson started treatment in jan 2007 and got his shot in april 2007 we waited 2 months from when he was due his vet felt that wilson was doing very well and showed such wonderful improvment we went ahead and gave him his shot (rabies is due for him this year) i did question when and if he should but his vet felt it was ok

now the reason i was thiking about shots all my guys are coming due in the next couple of months and with all the talk that vets "over vacc" i always wonder what should i do wait and give every 3 yrs like they say now (well some vets) or stay with every yr. they say people do not need them every yr so dogs do not i always wonder what is the right way
i always end up listen to the vet and do every yr he says with the life style my guys have i would be stupid not to
and since wilson was attacked by the dog sat and i have no idea what if any shots that dog ever had i was sure glad wilson and all my guys had there shot that same dog that bit wilson tried to get one of my other dogs
kind of like the lipto shot my guys get that one also, but they drink from rivers and lakes and even puddles in the woods
anyways wilson did fine with the vacc while on treatment but i would go with what every you and your vet decided is best each case is a bit different
