That I great news.  Nine isn't all that bad, it could be worse.  Its high but readable.  Let's hope its all downhill from here.  I was reading an article on animals losing their sight last week.  The article explained how animals don't dwell on it like us.  The make due and utilize their other senses.  He's gonna do great.

I have been going through the same eye problems with my 6 year old Sheltie as that was the first sign of any health issues in him.  The eye problem was treated within 24 hours of onset but within the next 24 hours was totally blind.  He was then seen on an emergency basis with the Opthamologist who kept him in a few days as the medication regiment needed to be monitored.  They also did the procedure to reduce the pressure in his left eye although both were affected by the blindness, the pressure was much higher on the left side.  The good news is that he did regain some vision...it's not great but although limited, he has been able to at least see some.  (The Opthamology bills are a little crazy - so far nearly $3000).  They had not diagnosed the cause of the eye problem and until now have been calling it Idiopathic!  Anyway, this week he began refusing to eat and having runny stool so back to the vet and was treated with Metroniazole to help him with the cramping and hopefully firm things up for him.  The day after he was seen, he began showing signs of shortness of breath so again...back to the vet.  Yesterday we ran some more chest xrays (had done these also back in May when the eye issues set in but nothing showed) and the vet, after viewing the xrays...we are leaning in the direction of it being Blastomycosis.  I am anxiously awaiting his opthaologists return tomorrow and will probably be taking him back to Ottawa.  I'm really hoping after all I've read about this that it hasn't progressed too far to make him get better.  This has just been the absolute worst summer of our lives and watching him go downhiill for so long without diagnoses....I'm praying that now since we actually can hang onto something we're moving in the right direction and it's not too late for him.  We're not even nearly out of the woods yet but I'm happy to share with you the medications that Rory was on which did seem to help his eyes regain some of his vision.

His initial treatment with the Opthamologist was :  Timoptic (for the pressure) 2 times a day, Metacam (for inflammation and pain) once a day, Prednisone eye drops 6 times a day, idrops 4 times a day, and Fucithalmic eye medication 4 times daily.  As well as the procedure being done to reduce the pressure (might be called TPR...can't really remember).  Good luck :)
