Itra tip
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:22:44 AM »

I was at the Compounders yesterday to pick up a refill for Lola.  He had ran out of the opaque white bottles he had been giving me her Itra in.  This time the bottle was transparent dark green.  He told me to wrap the bottle with duck tape when I got home.  Apparently light can slightly degrade Itra.   Just thought Id pass this along.

yikes. I've been getting it in the standard amber/clear bottles, and happen to keep it on the window sill next to the food dishes.

Good Morning Lolas mom!  Where do live that you are able to get it directly?  Can I ask what dose you get & for how much?  I'm trying to find somewhere chaper to get Angels meds in case she tests pos & need them long term like so many of the dogs (& ppl!) on this list.  I'm in middle of divorce, just moved etc & $ have never been tighter! Trying not to get too worried till I get test results back on her, but knowing my luck I am trying to be 'pro-active' ; )
thanks!  Hugs to you & Lola!

I am in Alabama and my vet reuses to order from Canada so I bite the bullet and pay 200.00 a month for generic Spornax every month.  Spornax is the brand name for Itraconazole.  Its beaded and that's what you want.  Not powdered.  Powdered is Bulk and its not stable or absorbable.  If your using Itra, I would advice AGAINST bulk powdered compounded Itra.  Lola used it and we didn't see any improvement.  Spornax is very expensive, but you can get it from Canada Drugs online for a good price.  I would consider Fluconazole as its much cheaper and crosses he blood brain barrier.  Does Angel have lung involvement?

There is a recent post about BULK powdered Itra you should read.  Lola is on 125mg a day and just divide the capsule into fourths myself and give it to her in a spoonful of margerine.  You want to make sure you give the meds with a fat.
