Test Results
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:22:14 PM »

Well the Vet just called and said the test came back negative for Blasto.  I am not sure what to think right now, since false negs seem to be pretty common with this disease.  Jesse is going back to the Vet tomorrow morning to have another full physical.  Hopefully we will find something out tomorrow.

Well, I'm glad its not blasto.  I think there would have been a greater reaction to the meds.  Have you had a tick titer?  There are tick born illnesses that have lung involvement.  I really hope its nothing serious.  How's your pup feeling today?  The worst is not knowing what it is.  I remember that feeling too well. Please keep us informed.  We're always here Blasto positive or not.

Well we still have no idea what Jesse has.  She seems to be feeling better but is still tired.  She eats but will only eat limited items.  Her chest X-rays were sent to a specialist and I should have the 2nd opinion today or tomorrow.....I hope for good news.   The Vet still says he doesn't think it is cancer and still thinks it is bacterial.

I think I posted to the wrong conversation.  Have they done a tick titer yet?  Not knowing is so hard to deal with.  It took 89 days for me to find out it was blasto with Lola.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.  Hopefully, its just something simple.

"Blasto or cancer" - that's what most people are told when they get the x-rays done.  However, there are many other illnesses out there that mimic these 2 diseases.  I pray that you will find your answers soon.  Find out what symptoms it could match that can be treated and go from there.  Good luck!!  I was in your shoes not so long ago.  And the uknown is so very hard!

Still doing good
« Reply #8 on: April 14, 2011, 02:37:52 PM »

Well we still don't have a diagnosis, but Jesse is doing great.  She is back to being very playful and hasn't coughed in weeks.  We still have her on flucon and she will go back for another vet visit after the meds run out.  I am so thankful to have her around still.  I am very fortunate to have a wonderful and caring Vet and Vet Staff.

Wow...this sounds very familiar.  That's pretty much what happened with Lola.  Her first test came back neg, we started her on the meds and she improved.  Sounds like Blasto to me.  It took us 89 days to get a diagnosis.  She was on the meds for over a month before we new for sure.  What does your vet think?  Have you retested yet?  Is the Fluc the only thing ya'll are on?  Its great to here ya'll are hanging in there and improving.  Its funny how appreciative you can be for each day when you face something like this.  Love and prayers.

So far, so good.  The Vet did take Jesse off of meds on 5/4.  I am watching her very closely, but she is doing great!  She will be 9 years old in a few months and I have been very lucky to have had a such a wonderful dog!!  I sure hope we get several more birthdays with her. : )  She has always loved Spring time, this year is no different.
