question on dosage and eye for moose
« on: November 11, 2007, 09:53:16 PM »

I am going back to the vet tomorrow and wanted to know what doseages you all have given in the beginning of the Sporonox?  Also, how long did you give 2X a day? On the eye problem - do they eventually clear up with the medicine??  When will I know to give up on the eye getting better?  His eye is really swollen and cloudy.  On a lighter note - how do you add a picture to the messages - I am somewhat computer challenged.  I tried, but the file was too large it said??? Not sure how to make the file smaller??  I would love for ya'll to see a pic of Moose!  Thanks!

My vet still has Will on Sporonox 2x daily and we started on September 21st.  He weighs about 18lbs now and gets .2ml each time in a liquid with the white sporonox mixed in.  Think the liquid has stevia for flavour and it is quite a thick mixture.  I have a full month left of the prescription so she won't be putting him on once a day for at least that long.  He did however start out on .5ml twice daily and that only changed 4 weeks ago.
Re posting a picture, I had the same issue and I emailed Lisa the administrator with a picture as an attachment and she added it for me.  Can't wait to see Moose and glad to see you and Moose are still with us.  Is he a little better? More alert? Sleeping less and eating a little?  Cheering you both on.

How is Will's coughing?  Thank you for your response.  Moose is no worse - except for his eye - it is worse.  Lameness is better - appetite is probably a little worse since yesterday - Maybe not sleeping quite as much - thanks for asking.

I am so excited I can hardly write this post!  I was contacted by a fellow this morning who has a dog with blasto and he has told me of having success in treating his dog's eye with a new (experimental?) treatment.  I have asked him to come on the forum and supply you with the information about the treatment itself and the vet's name and contact info so you can get your vet to do a consult and discuss treatment for Moose.  So far sight has started to return to the affected eye so I am so hoping it will be a treatment that your vet will consider. Once again this forum is providing help and information we all need so desperately.  Please keep checking in.
As for Will, well I haven't heard from the vet and he seems to be feeling much better in spite of his cough so I am keeping an eye on him and concentrating on fattening him up.  Yesterday he went after a squirrel at full gallop so that alone put a smile on my face.

Marge's eye was sooooo bad for a couple of weeks. We took her to the er for it and their only solution was to remove the eye. That was not an option to us because we knew from our regular vet that it was not necessary. We went to go see a speacialist opto and he told us that her eye will be blind but it will look good. You can still see the blasto in the eye the vet says. We are just praying that Marge makes it through all this like the champ she is and if she only has one good eye well then it is what it is. Moose's eye should get better. Make sure you keep up on your drops. We have been giving drops since June and will continue. Marge was switched to fluconozole because it works much better for the eye. Ask your vet about that. Marge was never on pills 2x daily because it was way too much for her. Let us know how the vet went today!
