Agree about the discoloration -- make sure she's getting oxygen. The mucus could also be from the infection in her head....maybe pushing down through the gums?? Are there any sores in her mouth by chance? Izzy had one in her lip that would drain on occasion.
I would ask about the heart failure - Barb is right to be better safe than sorry. If it is, then you're decision is made for you. As hard as that will be, at least you will know you did everything you could to get Sadie healthy again.
If it's not, I would say to go with your gut on the eye....My biggest regret with Izzy was not getting her eye removed sooner. She had two MAJOR surgeries within four days (her spay was not easy - her uterus was slightly enlarged and she was anemic), blasto, and had not eaten in two weeks...and she pulled through. If she had not, we would have been devastated, but looking at her poor face we knew we were down to the eye removal or putting her down. Our vet spent over an hour with us discussing the pros and cons of each decision, and gave us the freedom to make either decision without judgment. We decided to go for it, and are thankful that we did.
I can't help but wonder if he took her eye if he would be able to drain all of that gunk from her face. When our vet did the surgery he said that he had never seen such a foul mess pour of an incision......
There's a lot of infection in there, and remember that blasto reproduces at very high rates, which is causing all of that swelling.
She's your pup, so trust that you know the answer and are the ONLY one who knows what's best for your pup. I know that for us, we are grateful every day that we took the chance on the enucleation. I guess ask yourself....if you lost her during surgery, would you still feel you made the right choice, and gave it your best effort?
How much experience does your vet have with blasto? Are there any veterinary opthamologists around? Might be worth the second opinion from an eye or blasto specialist if you have the time in the next day or two.
Do you have any medication for her eye - glaucoma drops to reduce the swelling/pain, etc?
