deramaxx
« on: February 13, 2011, 03:44:56 PM »

Sadie has now taken her first dose of deramaxx and she is knocked out. Has anyone ever given your dog this? I gave her a half a dose, and she is kind of twitching. I'm glad she finally acts comfortable, but not sure if this is what I want either. We are on day 3 of Itra and still no appetite. She is getting so weak that she won't try to walk anymore. Just layed flat on the kitchen floor and peed all over :(

Is she still also on the NSAID? That's a no-no in the stuff I found about Deramaxx..... Tramadol and the Itra are kind of standard together for fighteing Blasto and dealing with pain....  there may be others here who use Deramaxx, but I've not heard of that....... please google Deramxx info if you are using NSAIDS still..... ANd good luck. The first days are sort of shocking......... WE're with you!

Oh....poor Sadie.  Its painful stuff, this Blasto.  Lola had pain in swelling in her back legs.  Recently, she has been slightly limping on a front leg (but it doesn't seem to be that bad.)

I haven't heard of Deramaxx.  Lola was on Tramadol.  Rest is what she needs right now.

I can tell you that Lola did go through the twitching thing and I beleive Ashley said that Izzy did too.  She would twitch in her leg or shoulder when she slept.  It scared me to death because I worried about CNS involvement. But my vet said not to be concerned, that they worry about CNS involvement before they start any azoles and not so much once they are into treatment. Was she twitching before you put her on the Deramaxx?  Is it localized twitching or her entire body?

The appitite thing is SO HARD.  But if you are still giving her Ensure and water she will be alright.  Have you tried giving her wet food mixred with water through a syringe?  The lack of appitite might go on for a few weeks.  But dogs are very strong.  Your doing a great job.  Were all proud of you.  Its such a hard thing to go through.

I guess Deramaxx is used quite a bit. I've seen a lot of references to it using the search feature.  Is Sadie feverish?

Hang in there.  We are all praying that you start to see a turn around soon.

She isn't on pred anymore. It's a steriod so she is safe on deramaxx. She is also on tramadol with Itra, pepcid (because deramaxx can cause stomach ulcers) and cipro antibiotic for the possible infections caused by this fungus. She hasn't been running a fever in the past couple of days. She looks so much thinner right now. I just keep saying we're not giving up. My family looks at me like i'm crazy, but I just keep getting on here and listening to you all. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement!

You're doing a great job!! I hadn't heard of Deramaxx, but sounds like it might really help with the pain.... The first weeks are so hard....... i was so sad when my great big Bennie wouldn't eat...... but as the Blasto died away he got his appetite back, and he ate much better. but he had something big going on that we missed...... Anyway, he had some great meals once the blasto died off..... I roasted a turkey just for him. and chickens. many chickens.. most of my efforts went down well... and ground round, too.... but one day it would be one thing he would eat, the nest, no thank you, but something else would work..........

Hang on. It's a very rocky ride. You will probably even be changed by this. I know that I was...

Look at it like this...she isn't running a fever anymore.  You are making progress.  She is weak but getting better.  Fevers are caused by the body trying to fight off infection or fungus.  The meds have taken over and are fighting for her now.  Hang in there your doing great.
