Lolas New MiraVista Results.
« on: February 04, 2011, 12:24:49 PM »

Well.....it took forever but I just got back Lolas results from the new MiraVista test....she is POSITIVE!  The good new is that she seems to be doing awesome.  She is going up and down our back deck, jumping up on the coach, playing with her pups, eating everything and anything, her eyes are mostly clear and the swelling in her leg is gone.   Her breathing is really getting better.  Sometimes it almost seems close to normal.  Still gets a little fast for a while after the Itra.

My vet is just blown away and he said this has been a real education for him.

We could never have gotten this far without all of you.   I might not "know" any of you...but I love you all.

But the important thing was that you tried.  You did all yu could.  We are still going to have to face the heartworms after this.  Every time I think about that, I see Bennies sweet little face.

Oh what a relief!!!  You have an answer and hopefully the worst is behind you.  Thank you so much for sharing your news with everyone.  Now those that get a negative test in the future will have more strength to hang in there and retest if needed.  I've never been so happy to hear a dog has blasto. She is doing so well.  Keep us updated.  Lola is an inspiration as well as an educational experience to everyone. :)

Thank you, you have been such a good friend through all this.  I think I'm still in shock.  All and all, it took 89 days from the first day I took her to the vet to get this diagnosis.  I'm glad my vet was persistant and kept my hope up.  I just hope she continues to do well and makes it through the heartworm treatment.  She really is an amazing little dog, all things considered.

SO glad you got a positive result - the worst is not knowing.  Now it has a name, and you know you were right on the money to keep Lola on azole treatment.

Keep up the good work - you're doing FABULOUS!

I am so proud of you.  You joined this board looking for information, and you went out there and found even more to share with everyone.  There's so much value to each member who joins and shares their experiences.  But you went beyond and are such an asset to this family.  Some come and get the support they need and are never heard from again. But I hope you will be around for a while to help everyone learn more.  Lola's case is a little different, just like Izzy's is.  You had the negative blasto test, then a positive one.  You had Lola pumped up on steriods - which most of us have been told is a major taboo when treating this disease.  And to top it off, you have to deal with heartworms - another complication to throw into the mix.  When you are through it all - Lola's story needs to be retold from beginning to end for others to read about and learn from.

Keep up the excellent work!!!

Shelly,  I promise you are one of the sweetest people I have ever met.  If I had one wish it would be for Sadie and Bennie to still be here.  You will never know how much the support you gave to me meant.  I truly love you and can only hope to be as good of a friend to someone else as you have been to me.  Thank you for everything.

Have you got that lucky little puppy yet?

I have to say that I don't think anyone should ever pump a Blasto pup up with steroids.  When Lola was given the Dexomethasone we had no idea we were dealing with Blasto and I am sure it made it much, much worse.  However, I do believe giving her small doses of Prednisone when we first started the Itra did save her life.
