Tuna?!?! Okay to eat or not???
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:03:31 PM »

Hi everyone,
Quincy did not eat anything without being forced today. Yesterday though, when he was open to food, he did eat some tuna so today in a last ditch effort I tried to get him to eat some more. I ended up having to force feed him tuna, an egg, and 4 syringes full of tapioca. My question is, is it okay to feed him tuna? I know it has large amounts of salt in it, but since he took it I was afraid to turn it down to him yesterday. Let me know what you all think. UGH!!!! Everything is getting pretty stressful around here. I'm just hoping he makes it through all this because yesterday he started coughing so badly that he literally gagged himself. Today was a better day though, I just wish he would eat :(

I don't know about the tuna, but I feed Doc canned salmon a lot.  I've also been buying vienna sausages and making him potted meat sandwiches.  I think it's gross, but he sure loves it!!

I hope you can find the food that Quincy will eat.  Our dog loves chicken leftovers almost as much as meatballs.  Our dogs also go nuts for turkey.  This is a great time of year to try that.
Thinking of your family and hope Quincy gets his tail up and sparkle back into his eyes.  He has such a nice grin on your avatar photo.

Well Quincy isn't doing that well. Stopped eating on his own 2 days ago. We've been feeding him and watering him through a syringe. Took him to the vet to our local vet to get some fluid and nutrients in him today and you could tell the worry in the doctors eyes. At the end of the visit, he told me had a confession so make. He also said how he felt a bit haunted by the fact that before we took him to the emergency vet, I asked him if he thought Quincy was going to make it and he had said yes at the time. I immediately balled when he told me this, knowing that by the sight of Quincy now, he wasn't as postive. I admire his honesty and feel bad for asking that question, but the truth still hurts. Quincy's lost 2.7 pounds in 2 weeks. . . . We are going to his specialist on Monday, just to see if although we can't see it, maybe there is some internal progress. We can only hope and pray!

God Bless!  Am praying for Quincy and your family!  Hoping things will turn around, that he will perk up and get his appetite back.  It's so distressing to see them when they are so sick, but keep the faith and please know that you are thought of.  Wish there was a way to reach through this computer and give you and Quincy both a BIG HUG!  I'd love to do the same with the others on here as well.  So many good folks coming together in the midst of such turmoil with our beloved pets.  God love you!  Hang in there and keep us posted!!!

This morning Quincy recieved a subcutaneous shot to hydrate him. He also had one done yesterday morning. This morning though, after recieving one, the opposite sholder area of where he recieved his shot swelled up and hasn't went down yet. I'm hoping this is just the fluid?????? We see the vet tomorrow though just incase. Has anyone elses dog had this reaction after recieving this shot?

Curby has some areas like that - general swelling, feeling like fluid in there, about palm sized.  The first one was 2 months ago when they subq'd antibiotics and fluid before diagnosis.  It went away for a while, and now he's got a couple of them, one on his back along spine, and one on his rear end.  And they seem sensitive.  But they have not burst at all.

Went to the Emergency Vet today. Had both and ultrasound and xray just to see if the lmph node has swollen more or decreased. It still remains the same size although there are some more little area's that aren't lymph nodes but spots withint the lungs.  The vet believes it could either be cancer spreading or blasto spreading, although it hasn't spread anywhere farther then the lungs. He really wants to asperate the lymph node but the price is what stops us from doing it. Plus, since he only has one lymph node involved and he has no skin lensions, the vet is still leaning toward cancer. It makes it a hard desion. . . We currently have decided to continute on the Spornox for another 2 weeks and go in then to see how it looks using xrays, blood tests, mirav test, etc.  What a rollercoaster of emotion this all is!!!

I am very sorry to hear about Quincy's emergency vet trip!  Poor fella!  I am going through a rough ride with Doc right now to.  For the past couple month or so Doc's lymph nodes were alright, then BOOM, now all of a sudden they are swollen.  Please know you are not alone and are thought of.  Hoping & praying that our babies will be alright!!

Oh Quincy,  I hope you perk up.  Your family is doing everything that they can for you.  Please get back to some of your charming tricks and smiles.  I'm sending positive thought to you!  Callie, I sent you personal messages but they don't show up in my outbox.  I hope that you received them.  I did not ignore your request.  Quincy's blasto seems to be affecting different systems than Cosmo's was so their disease process seems much different.  Since we started phenobarbitol yesterday for Cosmo's seizures he is very subdued.  You know how unusual that is for a Jack Russell.
