when using the clay
1st make it into a paste
put it on the lesions cover completely
make a warm compress, yes warm ,makes it more comfy and keeps it from drying up , I used a wash cloth and got it hot
put on top of the clay for at least 1/2 hr everyday
if possible do 2 or 3 x's a day
wash off or the dog can lick it off very safe to eat in the wild parrots and other birds eat it also other wild animals and yes I use it for stomach aches brush my teeth some dog foods always have it in it
the clay helps to dry it up stops the itching
call me if you have more questions on using it

This board is so helpful.  I love the way that experience is shared.  Hope things perk up for Izzy.

Thanks for the support and the knowledge guys!  Izzy is hanging in there.  The vet suggested that every night, about 30 minutes after we give her the tramadol, we continue to lightly massage her paw and 'dab up' the stuff that comes out.  We've done it every night for about 15 minutes.  Clear liquid has been coming out, a little pink, a little yellow, but nothing like what I would have expected to be infection.

Last night, gunk just poured out of it.  Thick, yellow, gunk.  These poor dogs that are dealing with this, what a nightmare.  For lack of a better word, we 'sopped up' almost 15 gauze pads full of it, and only stopped because she was starting to pull her leg away since it was sore.  We then iced it and let her sleep.  This morning the swelling is down some, so maybe it's helping.

Our vet apparently has a board he's visiting similar to ours, but is vets only.  Maybe its a listserv, I'm not sure.  He said he was doing some research to see if anybody had any luck with aspirating those swellings to get the fungus out or if that just added to the problem.  Seems like the faster we get it out of the dog's body, the less it has a chance to reproduce and spread.  He said he'd let me know next week, and to let him know how she was doing and we got some of the gunk out of there.

Our pascalite clay was delayed in shipping.  Should be here on Tuesday or Wednesday.  In the meantime I'm going to see if I can get lucky and our holistic pet products store carries some..unlikely, but worth a shot.

As for everything else, she seems to be doing ok.  Hits the wall energy wise after you give her the fluconazole.  Pretty good energy, definitely a healthy appetite.  Hope the good days last for a while!  And hope the other pups are doing ok today!

Barb, we are too, believe me.  I don't think her previous owners (she was a breeder) would have taken the time to deal with this. Their main concern was how many puppies she could have and how often.  She kept fighting them off when they would try to breed her, so they got rid of her.  They didn't bother to check and realize that her last litter (of 14, 10 that lived) had drained her so badly that she was severely anemic.  If they had bred her again she would have died.  I have a special place in my wishful thinking revenge list for those folks.

How's Bennie doing today?  Talk about being lucky, sounds like the place to retire is at your house. :)

Thank you. We have had a good time, Bennie, Heather , and the two black dogs now gone...... And. Bennie is feeling very much like his old self. We are now into this 18 days. 15 on meds.. He played!!!!! with Heather for a couple of minutes out in back this morning!! And he has gained back some of the 8 lbs....... Today is good. I'm going to Sam's Club for chickens and am going to cook a turkey. May even feel okay about accepting an invitation for Thursday!
Thank you for asking. the swelling in his rib is down, and the pain seems less and the tic seems less, too... still some hesitation about the stairs, but that is something he learned to do when we moved and he was 6 years old.....

Praying for Izzy and you guys!  Our vet advised to leave the lesions alone and let them heal, and let the Fluconazole medicine take effect.  The lesions did heal on their own - dried up without any treatment from us.  Unfortunately, the Blasto kept on inside, and won and we lost the battle.  I am so praying to hear good news about Izzy!  Hang in there..... Hugs... Deb
